What are Satoshis (Sats)?
A satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, named after its pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. One Bitcoin is divisible into 100,000,000 satoshis.
This division allows for microtransactions and the ability to represent smaller amounts of value within the Bitcoin network. For example, 0.001 Bitcoin is equivalent to 100,000 satoshis.
The use of satoshis makes it easier to discuss and transact smaller amounts of Bitcoin. As the value of Bitcoin changes, the equivalent value in satoshis adjusts accordingly.

Why Convert Bitcoin to Satoshis?

Microtransactions & Lightning Tips
Thanks to the Lightning Network’s speed and low fees, sending as little as a few sats has become practical. This empowers creators and rewards content with near‑instant “zaps” of value.

Precision in Accounting
Using sats instead of BTC helps avoid long decimals and rounding errors. It makes record-keeping, tax reporting, and daily accounting much easier and more accurate, especially when dealing with small amounts.

Financial Inclusion
You don’t need to buy a full Bitcoin to get started. With sats, anyone can own a piece of Bitcoin—even just a few cents' worth. This opens the door for more people around the world to use and invest in crypto, no matter their income level.
